Leather Information:
There are various aspects of leather care that
should always be taken into consideration. Leather is easily the most delicate
surface of your car, and so special care should be used. The key in preserving
your leather is, proper cleaning and conditioning. Regular monthly upkeep of
leather can preserve leather for many years to come.
How often should someone clean and condition
leather?
It is necessary to clean and condition regularly
in order to preserve leather and protect it. Just like most proper care, take it
one step at a time.
Vacuum the leather and small inner crevices to
assure a smooth surface for cleaning. Scrubbing or even rubbing leather that
has light dirt or sand particles can scratch the leather surface and lead to
deterioration.
Once you have vacuumed. start by gently cleaning
the leather with a soft, non colored (dyed) towel. Some towels leak or loose
color that could rub off on the leather. Always start by testing a hidden or
side portion of the leather before you start working on the larger front
panels. Testing the leather for color fastness is important to assure that no
color loss or blotching will occur on more visible surfaces.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY
LEATHER?
When you apply and leather cleaner always put it
to the towel or micorfiber and then gently rub the leather surface, do not
simply spray the cleaner or conditoner on the leather surface. This will assure
the leather is not saturated in cleaner. Always start by fully wiping down one
area then proceed to the next. This process ensures that you cover all areas
thoroughly. Always start by working a 2 to 3 square feet area at a time.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN MY LEATHER?
If you have a dark colored leather interior or
surface, leather manufacturers recommend cleaning 3-4 times a year and
applying a good conditioner monthly. When working with light colored leather, it
may be necessary to clean it more often mainly because it shows dirt more then
darker colors.

WHAT IS
INVOLVED IN CONDITION MY
LEATHER?
Once you have vacuumed the surface start by
selecting the leather conditioner you wish to use. Start by applying the
conditioner to a soft microfiber towel or microfiber applicator and start by
working the conditioner into the leather one section at a time. Gently work the
conditioner on the surface, hard rubbing and pushing on the leather is not
necessary. Allow the conditioner to sit on the surface for a few minutes, if
desired you may buff off any excess product with a soft micofiber or dry terry
cloth towel.
WHY IS CONDITIONING MY LEATHER SO
IMPORTANT?
Leather was once alive : ) Nice thought. And
because leather is no longer receiving any nutrients it tends to start to dry
out and deteriorate due to the elements. Leather requires conditioning and
replacement of natural oils or it will dry out and begin to crack. Using a good
quality conditioner will aid in prolonging the leathers life while helping to
restore the soft and supple feel of leather along with the pleasant leather
scent we enjoy so much.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CONDITION MY
LEATHER?
Most auto makers and leather manufacturers
recommend conditioning every 25-45 days. For clients living in humid areas
condition every 35-45 days will be just fine, however for those living in hot
dry areas it may be necessary to condition every 20-30 days just to enhance the
life of leather.
